. , Architect/Engineer

Maria Smith is an architect, engineer, writer and curator working across disciplines to bring the built environment in line with planetary limits. She collaborates with architects, engineers, clients and design teams to create architecture that addresses the climate emergency through applying circular economy and regenerative design principles.

Her work builds on my experience founding and leading a transdisciplinary team at Webb Yates Engineers focused on reducing the embodied carbon of construction and her role as chief curator of ‘Enough: The Architecture of Degrowth’.

She is a trustee of the Architecture Foundation, one of the Mayor of London’s Design Advocates where she sits on the Circular Economy Sounding Board, and a nationally elected member the RIBA Council. Maria also co-founded the international series of politics and architecture debates, Turncoats, and sits on the steering group of Architects Declare.
